When we closed our last post, Adam and Eve had been driven
from the garden to an area probably in Iraq with
close proximity to the garden. Abel had
been slain by his brother Cain, and Cain had left the garden going east to Nod
which put him outside of Eden. Now let’s move in time about 3500 years and
come to Isa_51:3 “For
the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will
make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and
gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.” At this point Israel had
repeatedly gone after her idols, especially Baal and Astereth until God had
over and over chastised them using their enemies. In this passage God is comforting His people
Judah. He says He will make her
wilderness like Eden. This is interesting, because the land of Eden is
exactly the land that God promised Abraham.
In Gen. 15:18 God said to Abraham, "...Unto thy seed have I
given the land, from the river of Egypt unto the
great river, the river Euphrates." The river of Egypt is a
little river that flows into the South East Corner of the Mediterranean
Sea.
In 2 Kings 19:12, 2 Chron.
29:12, 31:15, and Isa. 37:12 we see mentioned the children of Eden, Eden the
son of Joah, name of a person listed with other names, and Eze_27:23 mentions Eden among other merchants, but I
have not seen where these passages add anything to present discussion
We have seen two people in the garden of Eden, the first
man and woman created by God We have noted their first children and how one
was murdered by the other. The second
left Eden and went
east to Nod. There is no record of any
other persons in that garden except one.
This one we have already alluded to as the tempter. He was the serpent, and Rev. Chapter 12 tells
us he was the devil. In Eze_28:13 we
read, "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone
was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and
the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the
workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day
that thou wast created." What are your thoughts here? Do you agree?
