When God placed Adam and Eve in that garden, He did so
with a command that the tree in the midst of the garden (the tree of knowledge
of good and evil) was not to be a part of their diet. They were told not to eat of it, and that in
the day they should eat of it, they would surely die. They did eat of it, and God came down and
solicited from them a confession of their guilt. Then it was that God slew the animals and
took their coats to clothe Adam and Eve.
I believe it was a sacrifice of blood that man might be saved. God in His mercy would not let them stay in
the garden because they might eat of the tree of life and live forever in their
fallen condition.
There was another departure. Adam's two sons, Cain and Abel had brought
their sacrifices to God. Cain brought of
the best of his fruit of the ground a symbol of his best works. Abel brought the best of his sheep and slew
it before the Lord. Here is a bloody
sacrifice. God accepted Abel's bloody
sacrifice, and rejected Cain's sacrifice of his works. Gen_4:16 "And Cain went out from the presence of
the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the
east of Eden." It was different with Cain. Having refused to bring the proper sacrifice,
he slew his brother over the issue. He
went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod. We are not told where Nod was except that it
was east of Eden. That would mean it was out of the great area
that God had planned for His people. Do
