What is Truth

What is Truth

John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

Pilate seems to be disgusted.  He had sought to deliver Jesus back to the Jews and dismiss the case.  They cried out that they did not have power to execute Him, but that He should die.  He asked Jesus if He were a king, and Jesus affirmed that He was.  Then He said, "Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice."  Then Pilate asked in disgust "What is truth?"   He did not expect to get an answer.

This, however, is a pressing question.  We should ask ourselves today "What is truth"  The theory of evolution is more and more embraced by religion, when it is the devil's lie.  Trumped up signs are believed when God's word is rejected.  The myth of Babylon takes precedence over Biblical truth.

Nevertheless, Jesus said on one occasion,  "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."  Any pursuit of truth must begin with Him Who is Truth.  Such pursuit will find that God has a chosen people, John 15:16 "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain:  that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you."

Such pursuit will also find that Jesus will come back to this earth and reign.  Luke 1:32, 33 tells us this, "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."   He is powerful to make us free, John 8:32, 36  "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.  John 8:36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

As we continue the pursuit of truth we learn in John 17:17-19 that truth is a sanctifying element.  "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.  As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.  And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth."   In this we are also told that the word of God is truth.  We also learn that truth was His reason for coming into the world :37 "...for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth."

This does not even begin to answer this most pressing question.  Hopefully we can go on to learn more and more of His truth as we study God's word and walk with Him.
