Alpha & Omega

Alpha & Omega

Rev 1:8  "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

Our text shows Jesus claiming His deity. He is the fullness of God eternally. Paul said in Col. 2:9 that in Him dwelt the fullness of the Godhead, bodily. John told us in John 1:1-3 that He was God from the beginning, and that He was the Creator. Here in our text Jesus claimed to be the Alpha, the first Letter of the Greek alphabet, and Omega, the last letter of that alphabet. He tells us that He has been, that He is, and that He shall come. He further tells us that in this He is the Almighty.

Why was God (Jesus) caring about creation? It was for the unfolding and displaying of His own glory Eph. 1:6, 12, 14. It was for the revealing and displaying of His love Jer. 31:3. He loved us to give us light and beauty described in Gen. 1. He Loved us to give us food Gen. 1:29. He loved us to provide for companionship Gen. 2:18, 21-25. He loved us to govern His Kingdom and to make us a part of it Matt. 25:34. He loved us to have us share in the intimacy of His church Eph. 3:6, 9, 21
