Is Jesus King
Joh
18:37 "Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then?
Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for
this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.
Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice."
Let us examine the text
itself. Jesus claimed to be a king. When Pilate asked Him if He was a King, He
answered "Thou sayest that I am a king. This was
an affirmation of the fact. When He
said, "To this end was I born," we learn that His kingdom was
the purpose of His incarnation. His
birth was like no other man's. He, Who
was God from eternity, came to earth by way of the virgin's womb. Thus God became man, and He did it that He
might become king. This was also the
purpose of His ministry. This He stated
when He said, "and for this cause came I into the world, that I should
bear witness unto the truth." It
is generally taught that He will become King.
The fact is that He was King when He came the first time, and He still
is.
His people will one day be king
over the earth. This was His plan from
the beginning. His command to Adam and
Eve in the garden was "...let them have dominion over ...all the
earth..." Gen. 1:26. God said unto
them "...and subdue it: and have
dominion over ...every living thing that moveth upon the earth, Gen.
1:28. In the garden there came the most
awful abdication of all time. Satan, who
was a subject of Adam and Eve, tempted the woman. She ate and gave to Adam, and He ate. His act of eating the forbidden fruit was an
abdication from king ship to servant making Satan the god of this world. Jesus and His purpose, however, are not
defeated. In John 16:11 we read,
"...because the prince of this world is judged." Satan, Bless God, is a defeated foe.
Jesus is in the process to
making man king over the earth. He
fulfilled Daniel's Prophecy 2:44, "...shall the God of heaven set up a
kingdom, which shall never be destroyed:
and the kingdom shall not be left to other p[eople, but it shall break
in pieces and consume all these things." Granted His kingdom was spiritual, but it will
be physical. He is coming back to reign
with His people. See Luke 1:31-33, "And, behold, thou shalt
conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name
JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he
shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be
no end." It does not say that the throne
of His Heavenly Father shall be given Him; rather it says that the throne of
His father David shall be given unto Him.
Then in Rev. 22:3-5 we are told that His people will also reign for ever
and ever.
Yes, Jesus was a King, He is
now a King in exile, and He will return to take His throne and be a King
forever. For this kingdom He taught us
to pray, "...Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
