CHURCHES WITH or WITHOUT POWER

Let us look at the church with power. They had obediently waited in Jerusalem, Luke 24:49. Many use this verse to teach that we should pray and tarry waiting for the coming of the Spirit. That is not the correct interpretation at all. Our Lord was there commanding His church to tarry there in Jerusalem until they should be endowed with power. They were commissioned by the Lord here, :8. This same church was, in obedience to our lord, waiting in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, :5. On the Day of Pentecost that power came when the Holy Spirit came and filed the church 2:4.

Let us look at what churches without power are like. They are in a general sense of apathy. Groups of such churches have their own pet doctrine. They often misuse certain scriptures to try to prove their pet doctrine.  Jesus ceases to be the Central Figure in their message, They have lost their burden for souls. Perhaps more evident is their lack of power when churches are filled with easy believism. That is when people have no sense of the Lordship of Christ, but just because they confess to believe certain passages of scripture, they are eternally saved.

Churches today need to repent and turn to their first love Rev. 2:4, 5.  "Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent."
