Hear This, Ye Old Men

Hear This, Ye Old Men, and Give Ear

Joel 1:2

It was a sad time in Judah.  There was utter devastation.  The devastation is illustrated in the progression of the insect.  In verse 4 we see the palmerworm which cropped off fruit and leaves from the trees.  The Assyrian and Babylonian Empires (Iraq) took away all twelve tribes of Israel.  The locust continued the devastation of Judah through the Medes and the Persians (Iran).  In verse 4 the cankerworm followed the locust, and the Grecian Empire followed Iran.  Finally, the caterpillar ate what was left.  Rome followed Greece.  Judah witnessed all of these as enemies.

Joel called on the old men to think back.  Could they remember any time that was as bad as they were at this time experiencing?  I would call on the old men of America.  Have you ever seen a time of such devastation of America as we are seeing today?

Just as Joel said in verse 3, I would echo to the old men of our day.  Tell your children. and pass the word from generation to generation.  Tell of what our nation was under our founding fathers.  Tell of our Christian heritage.  Tell of our being a refuge for the Jew.  Tell of the great blessings God has poured out on this nation.  Let the heritage of our beloved America never be forgotten.

We, like Joel, must also call drunken America to awake and repent of her sins.  Let us lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth lament for the husband of her youth.  Let our ministers mourn and return to our orthodox religion.  Let them call our nation back to repentance.
