Psa. 18:49,
“Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD,
among the heathen, and sing praises
unto thy name.”
He
is great in His Protection of His People. He is as a fortress. Psa. 18:2, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and
my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the
horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” The same verse shows Him as the horn of our
salvation. The horn speaks of power
which shows Him powerful in our protection.
Verse 31 says, “For who is God
save the LORD? Or who is a rock save our God? Verse 46 says, “The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my
salvation be exalted.
He
is great in His Deliverance of His people from our distresses. This is true when it seems that all Hell is
against us. Psa.
18:5, 6. “The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and
cried unto my God: he heard my voice out
of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.” The word “prevented” then meant “to precede.” Thus he is saying, “the snares of death went
before me.” His ear is open to our cry,
verse 6. Note also Isa.
59:1, “Behold,
the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy,
that it cannot hear.” He is like a
candle to our darkness, verse 28. Psa.
119:105 says, “Thy
word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
He
is great in His Supplying of our Needs. Psa.
18:19 says,
“He brought me forth also into a large
place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.” Sometimes He surprises us with the magnitude
of His provisions. We do not deserve
it. Why does He provide it? He does it because He delights in us, verse
19. He even graciously rewards us for
obedience, verse 20, “The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.”
Let us praise Him
with our lips and by living a holy life in obedience to Him.
