GOD'S LAST WORD

Heb 1:1, 2  "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;"

Here is a precious passage of scripture.  When a loved one passes away, we often ask, what were his last words.  These are important to us.  In this passage we have God's last word to us.  We see God spoke.  The coming of Christ to earth was God speaking to man.  John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."   He is called the Word.  As God's Word to man, He was also the Light.  He lights every man to make them without excuse.  See John 1:9, "That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."  Christ declared God.  See John 1:18, "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."  Christ has declared to us all that we need to know of God.

What is the message God sent to us through His Last Word, Christ?  He spoke of Him as the Creator.  In John 1:3 He said, "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."   The writer of Hebrews 1:2 also tells us the same, "by whom also he made the worlds;" God knew the world would try to spin the creation off on some theory of evolution, so He made it amply clear that Jesus was the Creator.

Christ's deity is also made clear to us.  See Heb. 1:3, "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;"   He is the brightness of the Father's glory, He is the express image of God's person, and He upholds or holds together all things by the word of His power.  He is God.  See also John 1:14, 15, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me."   Here we have the incarnation of Christ.  God took on human flesh and revealed the glory of God to man.  Though He was born 6 months after John the Baptist, yet John spoke of Him as being before him.  Christ is eternal.  He is also the message of Christ's work.

What was His work?  He made atonement for our sins.  See Heb. 1:3, "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;"  He finished His work.  See Heb. 10:11-18, "And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,  This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin."
