THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT continued
Gen. 15:18-21
God's promise to
Abraham was very great. In Genesis 12:2 God
promised to make of Abraham a great nation.
This has already been fulfilled.
He told Abraham he would give him seed as the dust of the earth. He gave him Ishmael and a large number of
earthly seed. Many of the Mid East
Nations can trace their origin back to Ishmael.
God also told Abraham he would give him seed as the stars in the
heaven. He later gave him Isaac who was
the son of promise. It is through this
man that God counted his spiritual seed.
It is through him even that we have our Christ. It is also through this man, Isaac, that we
have Jacob and his twelve sons heading the twelve tribes of Israel. This nation became a
great kingdom and then with its division two kingdoms, kingdom of Judah and kingdom of Israel.
God promised to
bless Abraham and make his name great.
This He has done. His name is
revered among the Muslims through Ishmael.
His name is greatly revered through Israel as their father through Isaac.
It is not left to these two, however.
Christians have from the beginning revered Abraham as the one who gave us Christ. God promised not only to make his name great,
but make him a blessing as well as to bless them that blessed him and curse
them that cursed him. The seed of
Ishmael has from the beginning sought to put down the seed of Isaac. They have threatened to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.
The descendents of Ishmael would do well to step back and take heed to
God's promise to curse them that curse Israel. Many Gentiles have also
become antisemitic. This is very
dangerous. Even President Obama has
sided with the Muslim world against Israel. If this continues, America can expect the curse of God upon our own nation.
In Genesis 12:3 God also
promised Abraham a Seed to bless the
world, saying that in thee shall all the nations of the earth be blessed. Abraham gave us Isaac. Isaac gave us Jacob or Israel. Jacob gave us the twelve
tribes of the great nation. One of those
sons (tribes) was Judah. A descendent of Judah gave us Christ who blessed all nations.
All of this is
very important in God's dealing with man.
When God makes a covenant, you may count on it. He will not break His covenant. He has and is fulfilling the items of his
covenant that I have covered in a most remarkable way. The covenant is not limited to these items, however, and I shall discuss more of it in a later post.
