DEFINITION OF WORSHIP

Do you know what worship is?  Most people think of worship as a strong love.  That is not the definition I found either in the dictionary or in the lexicon of Greek and Hebrew words.  In my study of this subject, I was surprised at the definitions I found.

In one paragraph on page 7 of my book, A BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF WORSHIP, it reads as follows:  "...In the English definition and also in the Hebrew and Greek the emphasis is placed on an action more than an attitude.  The actions:  falling down, prostrating oneself, crouching, stooping, or bowing are predominant.  With these actions we do see again and again the attitudes of respect, reverence, and adoration.  Words that mean praise, glory, or serve are used very few times, yet we say we go to church to worship.  Do we?  In a later chapter we shall try to arrive at a true Biblical definition of what worship really is.  Our purpose here is to challenge our thoughts and see if we really do know how to worship.
