The Glorious Gospel

"According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God,
which was committed to my trust." 1 Tim. 1:11

What is this glorious gospel? It is the answer to the problems of verses 9, 10, namely: lawlessness, disobedience, ungodliness, the unholy, and profane, murderers, whore-mongers, homosexuals, kidnappers, and liars. It is the message of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ 1Cor. 15:14. It is the Good News of all that God has planned, prophesied and procured for the salvation of His people.

It is a glorious gospel. It is glorious because it came from God :11. It is glorious in its atonement (Gracious Election and Absolute Atonement). It is glorious in its priesthood (Compelling Love and Everlasting Life).

This glorious gospel is committed to our trust. It is not assumed, but it is committed by God to us, as it is He Who puts us in the ministry :12. The trust is magnified by the Giver. This trust requires our faithfulness :12.

This glorious gospel is good news to sinners. In verse 15 we are told Christ Jesus came into the world. We are told He came for the purpose of saving sinners. Paul considered himself as the chief sinner. Looking at Jesus and reflecting on ourselves, we will feel, about ourselves, much as Paul did.
