Labor Day Instructions

I should like to suggest some Labor Day instructions as found in Rom 12:11. First don't be slothful in business :11. That is give your work all due attention of mind. Be more thoughtful of what you have duty to do than how close you are to your break, and what you will do in that time. Be diligent in your activity of labor.   Employers today are constantly faced with incompetent help.   Remember that our God stated that man should make his living by the sweat of his face. Do not shrink from that sweat.

Second, be fervent in spirit :11 Know the value of time and the importance of things to be done. Your job is there for a purpose, and your employer is depending on you to do your task. You should have a spirit of conscience so as to improve every moment. You need to realize that in the purpose of God you are where you are. In view of this you should do your job with intense ardor and zeal as if you were doing it for the Lord. See verse 1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Note also Rom. 14:8, "For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's".

Third, live your whole life conscious that you are serving the Lord :11. This is not separate from the former instruction. Neither is it to encourage those who seem to be too holy to be involved in mundane affairs of life or to apply spiritual influence to their earthly life. It is just that you should not forget God when deeply engaged in worldly employments. Your body is to be sacrificed to God :1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Live your life in the will of God, :2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
