God Chooses and Punishes

Jeremiah 30:20

God selected His own people.  In Gen.4:1-5 He accepted Abel and rejected Cain.  In Gen. 12:1, 2 He chose Abraham and passed over the nations.  He established His church in contrast to all others Matt. 16:18.  He said on this rock "I will build my church."

God's people have always been an oppressed people.  In Gen. 4:8 Cain slew Abel.  He was angry that God accepted Abel's sacrifice and rejected his.  Abraham's people, the Jews, have always been oppressed.  See Judges 3:1; 1 Sam. 17:1, 2, 4, 8-10, 2 Chron. 36:17-21.  His church has always been the object of persecution.  See Acts 4:1, 2; 8:1; Rev. 17:6; 2 Tim. 3:12.

What makes the difference?  Cain worshiped at the shrine of Humanism Gen. 4:3.  Abel worshiped at the altar of grace Gen. 4:4.

You have the same two choices.  Will you worship at the shrine of Humanism and die lost?  Or will you bow before the Lord at the altar of grace and trust only in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His grace?
