In our last post, I think we made it clear that Jesus, Who
is both God and Man, fulfills Dan. 2:44 that the God of Heaven will set up a
kingdom, and it also carries on the plan of God from the very beginning that man would be king on
this earth. He is today administering His kingdom through His churches. Is this all?
Absolutely no.
There are so many passages also that speak of His kingdom as
future.Jesus, in teaching His disciples to pray, taught them to
pray, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.” Matt.
6:10. He would not teach them to pray
something to come if it is already here.
It was here spiritually, but Jesus was here speaking of the manifestation
of that kingdom materially. The kingdom
for which He taught them to pray is a future kingdom in which Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob will also reappear. In Mark
11:10 it is
said, “Blessed be the kingdom of our
father David, that cometh in the name of
the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.” In Luke 1
the angel told Mary that the throne of Jesus’ father David would be given unto
Him. It was also prophesied that He
would reign forever over a kingdom that will never end. That is a prophecy that Jesus will one future day sit upon the throne of David. Isaiah prophesied of this too. Rom. 15:12
“And again, Esaias saith, There shall be
a root ofJesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in him shall
the Gentiles trust.” Joseph of
Arimathaea (Mark15:43) was said
to be an honourable counselor, who waited for the Kingdom
of God.
In outlining the end Jesus said, (1 Cor. 15:34) “Then cometh the end, when he shall have
delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have put down
all rule and all authority and power.” In Rev. 12:10 we read of a future event, “And I heard a loud voice saying in
heaven. Now is come salvation, and
strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ, for the
accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and
night..” Now all these posts have been leading to
this end. My premise in the beginning
was that God made Adam king over the earth telling him to have dominion over
all things in the air, in the sea, and on earth. I said then that in the fall of man and his
abdication of royalty to Satan, the god of this world, that God was not
defeated, but in his sovereignty He set about to bring into being His plan of
man being king over the earth. He fulfilled
that in His Humanity reigning spiritually until one day when He will reign
materially. Here we are told that we shall reign on the earth. Rev. 11:15 tells us that Jesus will come
conquering all the nations of the world, and He shall reign forever.
Rev. 20:6 tells
us the Lord’s people will reign with Christ for a thousand years. So it will be Christi’s millennial reign when
He sits upon the throne of His father, David, but it will also be a time of our
reigning with Him. Finally in the New
Heaven and New Earth after the millennial reign God’s original purpose will be
fulfilled when the God-Man and His people will be kings together forever and
ever.
